Halloween fudge

prep time: 10 mins. ready in: 1 hr. 10 mins.

1 pkg. (8 oz.) philadelphia cream cheese softened
1 pkg. (16 oz.) powdered sugar(4 cups)
2 pkg. (6 squares each) bakers premium white baking chocolate melted
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup toasted chopped nuts
8 drops yellow food coloring
4 drops red food coloring
multi-colored sprinkles (for garnish)

beat cream cheese in large bowl with electric mixer on medium
speed until smooth. gradually add sugar, beating until well blended.

stir in white chocolate, vanilla, nuts and food coloring until
well mixed. spread in foil-lined 8-inch square pan.

top with sprinkles.

refrigerate 1 hour or until firm. cut into squares.

makes 48 pieces

ghosts in the graveyard

prep time: 10 mins. ready in: 1 hr. 10 mins.

1 pkg. (16 oz.) chocolate sandwich cookies
3-1/2 cups cold milk
2 pkg. (4-serving size each) jell-o chocolate flavor instant pudding & pie filling
1 tub (12 oz.) cool whip whipped topping, thawed

crush cookies in zipper-style plastic bag with rolling pin or
in food processor.

pour cold milk into large bowl. add pudding mixes. beat with
wire whisk 2 minutes. let stand 5 minutes. stir in 3 cups of
the whipped topping and 1/2 of the crushed cookies. spoon into
13×9-inch baking dish. sprinkle with remaining crushed cookies.

refrigerate 1 hour or until ready to serve. store leftover
dessert in refrigerator.

to decorate graveyard: decorate assorted cookies with decorator
icings to make ”tombstones.” stand tombstones on top of dessert
with candy corn and pumpkins. drop dollops of remaining whipped
topping onto dessert to make ”ghosts.”

scary spider treats

2 squares bakers semi-sweet baking chocolate
1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
12 cinnamon red hot candies
chow mein noodles

melt 2 squares bakers semi-sweet chocolate as directed on package
in medium bowl. add 1/2 cup miniature marshmallows and toss until
well coated. drop small mounds of the marshmallow mixture onto a
waxed-paper-covered jelly-roll pan. insert 2 cinnamon red hot candies
into the top of each mound for the spiders eyes and chow mein noodles
around the outer edge for its legs.

refrigerate until firm.

witches brew

prep time: 5 mins. ready in: 5 mins.

3 cups boiling water
1 pkg. (8-serving size) jell-o brand orange flavor gelatin*
4 cups boiling apple juice or apple cider

* or 2 pkg. (4-serving size each) can be substituted for the 1 pkg. (8-serving size).

stir boiling water into gelatin in large bowl at least 2 minutes
until completely dissolved. stir in boiling apple juice.

pour into mugs. serve with cinnamon sticks.

makes 8 servings.

cat dump casserole
(from ”gross grub” cheryl porter,random house, 1995

first, buy a new plastic kitty litter pan & scoop to serve the mess
effectively. (wash it well anyhow – i know i feel better if i do.)

to make cat dumps:
1 c. baking mix (like bisquick)
1 cup shredded cheddar
1 lb. ground meat (beef, pork, turkey)

to make litter
2 c. long-grain rice
3 3/4 c. water
2 tsp. salt
2 tbs. butter or margarine

preheat oven to 350.

mix dump ingredients and mold into ”logs” of various sizes. bake on
ungreased baking sheet(not touching each other)about 20 minutes, until
brown, crispy and firm.

while meat cooks combine litter ingredients in a large saucepan. bring to a
boil. reduce heatto low, cover and simmer 14 minutes without lifting lid.

fluff rice with a fork, set aside.

when ”dumps” are done, transfer to a dish lined with papertowels to drain.

spoon rice ”litter” and meat ”dumps” into letter pan and serve with scoop!

yucch! the kids love it!

kitty litter cake

1 spice or german chocolate cake mix
1 white cake mix
1 pkg white sandwich cookies
1 large pkg vanilla instant pudding mix
green food coloring
12 small tootsie rolls
1 new kitty litter box
1 new kitty litter box liner
1 new pooper scooper

prepare cade mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans)

prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble

crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in blender, they tend to
stick, so scrape often. set aside all but about 1/4 cup.

to the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix
using a fork or shake in a jar.

when cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. toss
with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. you
probably wont need all of the pudding, mix with the cake and ”feel” it, you
dont want it soggy, just moist; gently combine.

line new, clean kitty litter box. put mixture into litter box.

put three unwrapped tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until
soft and pliable. shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly
to resemble ”poop”. repeat with 3 more tootsie rolls and bury in mixture.

sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. scatter the green cookie
crumbs lightly over the top, this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll
in kitty litter.

heat remaining tootsie rolls, 3 at a time in the microwave until almost
melted. scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. this
is my addition-only spread 5 of the remaining tootsie rolls over the top;
take one and heat ntil pliable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter
box;l sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs

place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around.
i dont know about you, but my cat always makes a mess!!!

serve with a new pooper scooper.:)
